Andrew, the focus of this particular piece is on engagement as social media is largely owned by the marketing department today. However, if you search this site, you'll find an array of articles on interpersonal relationships.

I found that the title of this article was very misleading. This is focused on the marketing aspect within social media. Too bad my teacher didn't read the article and I need to right an essay on how: "Social media is about sociology and psychology more than technology." Not anything to do interpersonal relationships really. :/

This is so true. Media in general serves as the interface for society, the study of communications includes how media interpret and make sense of daily events, politics, and economics that can impact the cultural dimensions. The social sciences study media as a tool for meaning-making and its effect in cultures, For example, an anthropologist trying to understand a culture, searches for clues in language and societal practices. These clues can arise from media as it 'mediates' their ideas of belonging to certain groups and different communities. This has never been more complex than in the current fluid concepts of society where an individual can interact locally and globally simultaneously through new media tools that enable the connections via technology. People and societies transform their environments according to their interactions with it; therefore, new ways to enable the social experience are conceived, such as social media. Post-modern societal approaches to gender, class, race, and political economies that circulate in the media have implications for the socio-cultural experience, eventually molding the society, the conditions of the culture, and the cultural media artifacts within these. The structure of the world today, its identity, and cultural roles, and artifacts are applicable to the sociological, anthropological, and media research.

Thank You Brian for an article that is undeniably true and a pleasure to read. (words carry such weight and when do we get around to the fact that most Americans just don't read?)

Change your vocabulary before you change the rest....
