What people fail to fully grasp is that online PR occurs in a highly open source environment. This inevitably leads to bugs (inauthentic individuals/products) being found and resolved much faster than within a traditional dynamic. Your recommendations for online reputation building are sound, but in the end, with 6+ billion people watching, the bugs will be found. You can still take a dump (Allison) in a box (Gawker) and mark it guaranteed (Denton), but selling it is definitely more difficult today than it was five years ago.

Yeah thanks Bill. The Justine stat is minor, one of quite a few that I pulled. Don't you agree the photo of her was worth it?? :)

Seriously, is it mainly street cred. It's really hard to be a crossover personality. I think that mainly happens by being really awesome at one thing, and then being really awesome at one more thing simultaneously, and then being above average at another one or two things. Ashton Kutcher's probably a great example of that.

Well, Justine only has that many followers because she was included in Twitter's Suggested User List. At one point, I saw personally that Justine was gaining 10,000+ followers a day, so the difference between their # of followers is actually irrelevant. To be fair, Justine was way ahead of Julia anyway before the S.U.L.

I haven't studied whuffie personally, but from what I gather, whuffie becomes the foundation or the medium in which you can transfer your props from niche to niche. It's basically the amount of cred that's attached to anything you say, based on how you carried yourself in your other fields of "expertise".

If that's the case, then weighing too much in the niche aspect of what you're discussing, in this case, dating advice, isn't going to help you if you want to be known in the tech sector. You'd actually rather be known as generally personable, friendly, gregarious, intelligent and knowledgeable if you want to be popular as a crossover personality.
