This isn’t an attempt at sensationalism, this is a clear message for all businesses, in every market – Engage or die! If you don’t, you’re competition will. Those who engage with customers and markets will cultivate loyalty in ways never before possible. Traditional marketers will lose, unless they embrace new media.
The key however, is finding ways to measure everything in ways that mean something at every level of corporate communications.

The question is, what’s the difference between a journalist and a blogger? Is a blogger a journalist and is a journalist a blogger?
The answer isn’t so simple because the conversation usually spins down a maze of different avenues. But, let’s keep it straigh-forward, with the intent of answering the question.

Women 2.0 (a division of Entrepreneur27) and Stanford BASES are hosting their next event focused on individuals who went against tradition and took big risks, resulting in careers that they really enjoy. Recently, we attended Web 2point2, an ‘unconference’ driven by participants and based on conversations, not powerpoints.
The people who attended the event are the influentials in the Blogosphere and Web 2.0 movement – the folks in the trenches doing the real work, starting up new companies and sharing their understanding of what they learn. In short, the crowd will be largely made up of peers and contemporaries in the resurgence of the Web.

I lamented over whether or not to write this post, but felt that it was absolutely necessary in order to stop any potential widespread panic after Dave Winer’s post that semi predicts the end of Bubble 2.0.
Living in Silicon Valley has been an intoxicating and suffocating experience all wrapped up into a lavish party with gourmet food and cocktails poured through a block of chiseled ice. Everyday I live, breath, sleep everything two dot oh, and what started as a way of making the web more dynamic and interactive, is now one big pool of punch where programmers, marketers, and startup founders are the new rock stars and everyone wants to jump in to take a dip and take a sip.
STIRR has set the bar pretty high, and it has earned its place as the reigning champ for monthly tech/Web 2.0 business events. Note, that I will stop using words such as “mixer” and “networking event” because they cast a horrible misconception on what STIRR is really all about.
The secret of STIRR’s success is that its founders, Sanford Barr, Sean Ness, and Dan Arkind carefully screen their invite only (and wait list application) lists in order to fill the room with people that really are start-up founders, VCs, CEOs, serial entrepreneurs, bloggers, reporters, and influencers.
Brian Solis is a digital analyst, anthropologist, and also a futurist. In his work at Altimeter Group, Solis studies the effects of disruptive technology on business and society. He is an avid keynote speaker and award-winning author who is globally recognized as one of the most prominent thought leaders in digital transformation.
His most recent book, What's the Future of Business: Changing the Way Businesses Create Experiences (WTF), explores the landscape of connected consumerism and how business and customer relationships unfold in four distinct moments of truth. His previous book, The End of Business as Usual, explores the emergence of Generation-C, a new generation of customers and employees and how businesses must adapt to reach them. In 2009, Solis released Engage, which is regarded as the industry reference guide for businesses to market, sell and service in the social web.
