The Social Media Release (SMR) is gaining traction and visibility and is now looked to by many as the savior of the traditional press release – which may honestly be too great a task for any one tool. But, at the very least, the discussions around the SMR are fueling the evolution and improvement of the press release overall.
It’s not social media if the rest of the PR industry isn’t socializing…
I was a last-minute invite to the Bulldog Reporter Advanced PR Technology in Practice event in San Francisco on Friday to discuss Social Media and successful examples in today’s PR landscape.
As the future of Social Media Press Releases takes shape, it will take a community effort to keep it on track as well as encouraging mass adoption.
As part of the Social Media Club along with Chris Heuer and many others, I’m surrounded by industry visionaries who are pushing the movement forward, while also broadening the overall industry opportunity for Social Media in online public relations. We’ve also recently formed a Working Group to help establish an industry standard for the creation and distribution of Social Media Press Releases.
Last night I attended the del.icio.us birthday bash at the monstrous Yahoo headquarters, and yes, it was quite delicious! This was very different from previous events I have gone to in that it was bigger, more relaxed and there was tons of delicious food! Sorry, I’ll try to use a different adjective for the rest of the article.
An interesting story ran over at Read / Write Web discussing the market of social bookmarking as well as comparing several leaders in the space – although it doesn’t seem to include RawSugar and FURL , among others.
I’ve recently held discussions with Todd Defren , Shel Holtz , Chris Heuer, and Tom Foremski regarding social bookmarking, individually, as well as on the NMR “New Media Release” Cast, and how it can be leveraged by the PR industry. Todd has also covered this topic over at PR-Squared.
Niall Cook, Founder and Chairman of Cogenz Ltd, commented on the last reference to Enterprise 2.0 companies to let me know about what he’s working on over at Cogenz.
