The latest installment of “Blogger Relations” has run over at Forward. Thanks to Erin Caldwell for publishing each chapter. The previous article discussed, “Reaching the Blogosphere – Finding Bloggers in Your Market” using tools such as Technorati, Sphere, Google’s BlogSearch, Blogpulse, Alexa, CyberAlert, BuzzMetrics, Cymfony, and Umbria. The new article explores how to identify the right bloggers for your market and how to best reach them and why they should even receive your news in the first place. Please vote…

October 2006 STIRR 1.7 Founder’s Mixer

I recently had the opportunity to sit down for lunch with Sanford Barr and Dan Arkind. I’ve also held a few conversations with Joanne Wan and Sean Ness to discuss STIRR. Their vision for STIRR is united as they bring together the people driving the new tech economy forward. STIRR is by far the industry’s biggest, concentrated, most powerful, must-attend tech mixer out there, and it is only continuing to grow. Why? Because they control the attendee registration – invitees,…

The Evolution of Press Releases – NewMediaRelease (NMR) Cast #8

I joined Chris Heuer and Shel Holtz for the latest edition of the NMRCast for Shel’s award-winning For Immediate Release (FIR) podcast. NMRCast #8 is available online here. Participants: Chris Heuer, Brian Solis, Shel Holtz. Content summary: Chris provides an update of the working group’s progress. We discuss the role of tags in the social media release. A discussion of Sun Microsystems CEO Jonathan Schwartz’s letter to the SEC seeking approval for blogs to serve as a channel for material…

Office 2.0 Conference Showcases the Future of Office Productivity

Office 2.0 is much more than a new way of enhancing in-office productivity and it’s definitely much more than highlighting current state of “everything 2.0” out there. It is a significant milestone and testament to the state of the net, programming, an understanding of collaborative workflow, and an advanced way of seeking a way to simplify, streamline, enhance collaboration, and reduce the costs associated with day-to-day business. Enter Ismael Ghalimi and ITRedux. Ismael Ghalimi, CEO, Intalio Per his own words,…

1 Afternoon, 2 Understand Social Media – Palo Alto, 10/23

When I heard that Chris Heuer, Tom Foremski, and Giovanni Rodriguez wanted to put together a local event to help communications professionals “get” social media, I had to jump in. Like a group of banditos, we’re all out there running around trying to share the knowledge and benefits of social media and help escalate the overall value and perception of corporate communications in a web-driven world. Aside from individual blogs, clubs, working groups, and soapboxing, the team has organized an…

del.icio.us Birthday Bash!

Written by Alison McNeill Photo Credit: Scott Beale / Laughing Squid . Last night I attended the del.icio.us birthday bash at the monstrous Yahoo headquarters, and yes, it was quite delicious! This was very different from previous events I have gone to in that it was bigger, more relaxed and there was tons of delicious food! Sorry, I’ll try to use a different adjective for the rest of the article. Joshua Schachter, Photo Credit: Jeremiah Owyang My colleague and I,…

The Social Bookmarking Faceoff and its Effects on PR

Hats off to Paul over at StarkedSF for this tip. An interesting story ran over at Read / Write Web discussing the market of social bookmarking as well as comparing several leaders in the space – although it doesn’t seem to include RawSugar and FURL , among others. I’ve recently held discussions with Todd Defren , Shel Holtz , Chris Heuer, and Tom Foremski regarding social bookmarking, individually, as well as on the NMR “New Media Release” Cast, and how…

STIRR It Up! Founder’s Mixer 1.6 Raises the Bar

This was STIRR ’s sixth event and there was no doubt that it was the biggest to date. In fact they had to move from Blue Chalk in Palo Alto to The Whisper Lounge in SF in order to accomodate the growth. In discussions with Sean Ness and Joanne Wan, estimates were easily placed at about 225. 225…? Kudos STIRR team! STIRR is an effective mix of “live” social and business networking among a highly qualified crowd of tech innovators,…

Lunch 2.0 ‘Web Expo’ Blowout at Hitachi Data Systems

Yesterday, I attended the Lunch 2.0 event at Hitachi Data Systems in Santa Clara (Isn’t everything better with “2.0” after it?). Jeremiah Owyang organized and hosted the event and credit also goes out to Mark Jen for starting the Lunch 2.0 event series. Your host, Jeremiah Owyang – Photo credit: Scott Beale / Laughing Squid Similar to STIRR and the SV and SF NewTech Meetups, the concept is really about bringing together the people behind the new “Silicon Valley” economy…

Social Media Club Forms Working Group to Develop New Standard for Press Release

On the heels of its official launch, Social Media Club (SMC) formed the Media Release Working Group to begin development of the hRelease , a new standard for modernizing the traditional press release for a Web-centric world. The Media Release Working Group will work closely with the Microformats community, while evaluating other technologies such as XPRL, XBRL, and NewsML to establish a standard way of organizing, tagging, distributing, and sharing ‘official’ organizational communications among blogs and other online communities. The…
