1 Afternoon, 2 Understand Social Media – Palo Alto, 10/23

When I heard that Chris Heuer, Tom Foremski, and Giovanni Rodriguez wanted to put together a local event to help communications professionals “get” social media, I had to jump in. Like a group of banditos, we’re all out there running around trying to share the knowledge and benefits of social media and help escalate the overall value and perception of corporate communications in a web-driven world. Aside from individual blogs, clubs, working groups, and soapboxing, the team has organized an…

Listed Over at Lee Odden’s Online Marketing Blog

Many thanks to Lee Odden over at Top Rank Online Marketing for listing a couple of my articles in his guide to Blogger Relations 101. It’s a great post and definitely worth reading. I’ve been writing a series that explores how to target, reach and measure blogger relations over at Forward Moving. I’m already at article #4, out of maybe 5 or 6. Truth is that it could be a book, but really, it doesn’t need to be. I hope…

The Evolution of Social Media Press Release Distribution and Technorati Tags

As the future of Social Media Press Releases takes shape, it will take a community effort to keep it on track as well as encouraging mass adoption. As part of the Social Media Club along with Chris Heuer and many others, I’m surrounded by industry visionaries who are pushing the movement forward, while also broadening the overall industry opportunity for Social Media in online public relations. We’ve also recently formed a Working Group to help establish an industry standard for…

The Social Bookmarking Faceoff and its Effects on PR

Hats off to Paul over at StarkedSF for this tip. An interesting story ran over at Read / Write Web discussing the market of social bookmarking as well as comparing several leaders in the space – although it doesn’t seem to include RawSugar and FURL , among others. I’ve recently held discussions with Todd Defren , Shel Holtz , Chris Heuer, and Tom Foremski regarding social bookmarking, individually, as well as on the NMR “New Media Release” Cast, and how…

Social Media Club Forms Working Group to Develop New Standard for Press Release

On the heels of its official launch, Social Media Club (SMC) formed the Media Release Working Group to begin development of the hRelease , a new standard for modernizing the traditional press release for a Web-centric world. The Media Release Working Group will work closely with the Microformats community, while evaluating other technologies such as XPRL, XBRL, and NewsML to establish a standard way of organizing, tagging, distributing, and sharing ‘official’ organizational communications among blogs and other online communities. The…

New Media Release NMRCast #7

I joined Chris Heuer, Tom Foremski, and Shel Holtz for the latest edition of the NMRCast (New Media Release) for Shel’s award-winning For Immediate Release (FIR) podcast. This was a interesting and informative episode that not only discussed the future of the NMR but also current examples by Todd Defren, Shel Holtz, and my agency, FutureWorks, as well as Todd‘s recent post regarding Top 5 Principles of Social Media News Releases. NMRCast #7 – “Real-world implementations” is available online here….

Social Media News Releases

Yesterday, Todd Defren ran a short, but sweet, post to help PR pros “stop and think” in order to develop more successful SMPRs . Democratize “Access” Ensure “Accuracy” Embrace “Context” Build “Community” Be “Findable” I also added an idea or two, and in my discussion with Tom Foremski , the list is far from complete, but it is off to a great start…so stay tuned for updates. Write “intelligently” “Eliminate” hyperbole Be “informed” “leave” the spin to the reporter As…

(c) Amanda Congdon I stopped by Amanda’s place over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised to read her latest post. According to Congdon, “I’m SOOOOOOOOOOO Popurl!!!! Wow!! I’m announcing the cooperation with amanda congdon. launching in september she will remix the best urls from popurls every weekday in her own little box right on popurls.” Cool. Amanda then continued in her…
